Jens Müller on Wolfgang Schmidt

“Progressive graphic designer Wolfgang Schmidt (1929-1995), who had been a friend of Hillmann’s since the days of their joint studies and who was invited by him to join the circle of film poster designers, developed the idea of sitting in the film screening with a camera and taking photos directly from the screen. This resulted in unusually authentic images of the film experience and the action of the actors on screen. Hillmann adopted this technique and used it for many of his film posters.”
